The Ocala Heart Institute began in January of 1988 as a vision of three individuals – a cardiovascular surgeon, an invasive cardiologist and a cardiovascular anesthesiologist. The goal was to draw upon the expertise of these three specialties to deliver the best quality of cardiothoracic and vascular care to the heart, lung and vascular patient.

Ocala Heart sugeons performed approximately 1,500 catheterizations and 450 open operations just in the first year to now more than 8,000 catheterizations, 2,000 open heart cases and 1,000 vascular and thoracic cases per year.

Since 1988, our affiliation with Munroe Regional Medical Center has expanded, and we now have affiliations with some of the best hospitals in Florida and the United States.

The staff in the cardiac intensive care unit for (Ocala Heart Institute) is, without a doubt, one of the most professional, careing group of people I have ever come into contact with.

What is heart disease?

Heart disease, also called cardiovascular disease and coronary heart disease, is a simple term used to describe several problems related to plaque buildup in the walls of the arteries, or atherosclerosis. As the plaque builds up, the arteries narrow, making it more difficult for blood to flow and creating a risk for heart attack or stroke, according to the American Heart Association. Other types of heart disease include heart failure, an irregular heartbeat – or arrhythmia – and heart valve problems. To learn more about heart disease and conditions that can lead to heart disease, heart attack or stroke, you can visit the American Heart Association.
